Donnelley Introduces Variable Trim Binding Technology

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. has begun offering mailers new variable trim co-binding technology, which allows for variable-size mail pieces to be co-mailed for saving money on postage.

Multiple size pieces from multiple mailers can bound in a more efficiently in the print production line with this technology.

Donnelley says variable trim binding will increase the number of mailers who can qualify for postage discounts.

Older technology required pieces to have common trim sizes, but with the new technology the height and width of pieces can vary by up to 1 inch.

Mailers will be able to test the impact of changing the trim size has on paper costs, while still being able to participate in co-mailing pools to qualify for postal savings, according to Donnelley.
