Burger King Dresses Hamtaro for Halloween

Burger King Corp. is serving hamsters for Halloween.

BK’s tie-in with Cartoon Network’s hit Hamtaro stars the show’s hamster characters in a month-long promo that broke Oct. 6 and runs in restaurants and on the air.

Kids meals include toy versions of Hamtaro and seven other characters, which appear as they do on TV and can change into Halloween costumes.

Cartoon Network will air a Ham-Ham Halloween episode that shows the characters in those same costumes; the toys are only available through Miami-based Burger King. P-O-P features the hamsters in costume and includes a tune-in message. Equity Marketing, Los Angeles, handles the promo; Campbell Mithun, Minneapolis, handles ads.

“We all were so enamored of the Hamtaro characters in Halloween costumes that we agreed to wait until a half-hour special could be completed in time to coincide with the in-restaurant campaign,” says BK VP-global advertising and promotions Craig Braasch. The show airs on Oct. 21 and Oct. 30. ShoPro Entertainment, San Francisco, produces Hamtaro, which debuted on Cartoon Network last year.
