A beer and a burger is simply a part of life. Budweiser knows it and has launched its first “Bud & Burgers Championship” to find—not a “King of Beers” as Bud calls itself—but a “King of Burgers.”
The contest kicked off April 7 on National Beer Day. Entrants can submit a video or photo on Budweiser.com/Burgers showing their burger, paired with a Bud, and explaining why they should be the champion. The idea is to educate people across the country about “exactly how the beer’s crisp finish and aroma-enhancing carbonation can make burgers taste even better,” the brand said.
Semi-finalists will compete head-to-head at 10 nationwide Bud & Burgers Championships events hosted at some of the biggest festivals throughout the summer, including Stagecoach Music Festival, Free Press Summer Fest, Chicago Blues Festival and others.
A grand finale event will be held at the Budweiser Brewery in St. Louis on July 11, just down the street from where the burger was widely introduced to America: the 1904 World’s Fair, the company said.
The competition is getting help from award-winning culinary pioneer, Chef David Chang, who introduces the contest in a YouTube video.
Change will also be a judge. The winner gets $100,000 to support their culinary ambitions and will be invited to compete in a new six-episode cooking competition series, “United States of Burger,” which will premiere this summer on the Esquire Network.
