Bring in the Cloud

Posted on by Patty Odell

So how best to make “the cloud” technology tactical: something that people can actually experience by touching and feeling it. Leave it up to experiential agency Mosaic to make it happen.

Oracle OpenWorldIts client Oracle was looking to infuse some personality into its annual Oracle OpenWorld conference underway in San Francisco. Mosaic, Snarkitecture and Invisible Light Network, brought the cloud to life through an installation designed to evoke the freedom of the cloud.

Lots of attendees took a break from the conference rigors to enter a playful and ethereal environment that let them—both literally and figuratively—float in a cloud. Some 125,000 white balls serve as the base in the freestanding pavilion. Guests step in and get transported into a world of reflection that pulls in the sky from above. It’s as close as you can get to actually being in the cloud!

And that’s not all.

Mosaic also delivered on the confluence of mass production and mass customization in the digital age by using the power of computations to create customized expressions of the human voice that were then transformed into leather bracelets.

Here’s how it works: Using a custom app, built on a code stack featuring Java and MySQL, the platform analyzes voice patterns and transforms them into unique visualizations. The visualizations are then sent to high precision laser cutters where they are transposed onto raw leather, resulting in a token of data driven engineering design that attendees carry with them throughout the rest of the conference.
