Yahoo Promoting New Service with Trips to Anywhere

To encourage use of its new free PC-to-PC calling service, Yahoo is running a global sweepstakes that will award 30 trips to anywhere in the world the winners choose to go.

The service is a built-in feature of Yahoo’s re-launched Yahoo Messenger with Voice instant message module, and allows users to speak with each other over the Internet for free. The service is available in 18 localized versions of Yahoo, but the sweepstakes is open to users in 11 countries and Yahoo en Espanol users.

The promotion runs through Sept. 5. Every time a consumer uses the PC-to-PC calling service, a pop-up window allows the customer to enter the sweepstakes. Consumers can enter up to 100 times.

“Talking face-to-face is ideal, but with globalization and people moving all over the world, there is a need for a solution to make calls,” Yahoo spokesperson Terrell Karlsten said. “The goal is for people to stay connected and in touch all around the world, and we feel the sweepstakes and prize is a natural extension of that.”

The value of each trip is capped at $2,500, and the 30 winners will be chosen after the sweepstakes ends. Banners across Yahoo’s properties promote. OgilvyOne Worldwide handles.
