Natural foods retailer Wild Oats Markets has opened its first store-within-a-store, a holistic health center in a Stop & Shop supermarket in Plymouth, MA.
Wild Oats plans to add four more test boutiques in Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
The 1,100-square-foot boutique carries homeopathic remedies, natural and organic body care products and vitamins and nutrition supplements. The center is staffed by Wild Oats holistic health associates and houses kiosks with health and wellness information.
“With more people seeking out natural health solutions, we believe our concept will complement the existing traditional healthcare and pharmaceutical products offered at the grocery store,” said Wild Oats senior VP-new business development Bruce Bowman in a statement.
Boulder, CO-based Wild Oats has 111 natural foods stores under the names Wild Oats Natural Marketplace, Henry’s Farmers Market, Sun Harvest and Capers Community Markets. Its sales topped $1 billion for the first time in 2004, at $1.05 billion, up 8% from $969 million in 2003.
