Warner Preps for “Harry Potter” DVD Release

In advance of the April 11 DVD release of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” Warner Home Video has kicked off the second phase of its Unlock the Chamber of Secrets online sweeps and movie scene trading card competition.

Earlier in the month, fans voted at http://www.harrypotter.com/secrets for one prize out of four which would be the grand prize for the sweeps. Fifty-six percent of voters worldwide selected a walk-on role in the next film in the series, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” as the grand prize. One first-place winner will receive a private, advance screening of “Prisoner” in his or her hometown.

Through April 21, consumers can enter the sweeps and receive an electronic game board and a movie scene trading card. The competition lets fans earn and trade images from the film to complete game boards to win virtual rewards and access their favorite scenes from the movie. Players can collect all three sets of cards by answering film trivia, recruiting friends to register and logging on to the site daily. Players who purchase the “Secrets” DVD will also have the opportunity to collect exclusive cards.

Much like the DVD release of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Chamber of Secrets” will be backed by TV, print, outdoor and radio advertising.

“It will be a truly event video release,” said T.J. Moffett, executive director of marketing for Warner Home Video, Burbank, CA. “We’ve developed a variety of different executions to target each of the key demographic groups who are most interested in ‘Harry Potter.'”
