The directories subsidiary of Verizon Communications has acquired the assets of Inceptor, a search marketing solutions provider.
The company said the purchase, by Verizon Directories Corp., will enhance the ability of its SuperPages.com Internet Yellow Pages directory to provider maximum exposure for its advertisers.
Boston-based Inceptor launched an enhanced version of its BidCenter pay-per-click ad management platform. Financial terms of the purchase of the privately-held company were not disclosed.
On July 6, Verizon filed papers with the Securities and Exchange Commission that paved the way for a possible spinoff of its directories unit, presumably to focus more narrowly on its wireless and broadband businesses. The company said it is also contemplating a sale of the entire directories division, which provides sales, publishing and other services for some 1,750 directories, including 1,200 branded Verizon publications.
