The consolidation of MGT Associates Inc., Los Angeles, into its sister company. Uni-Mail List Corp. New York–announced Wednesday–occurred to make more efficient use of systems at the New York office and grow the business, Michael Bryant, president, Uni-Mail, told DIRECT Newsline. Five of the six employees at MGT lost their jobs as a result of the consolidation.
“It’s a combination of building the business and being able to service the existing clients,” Bryant said. “We’ve got a whole lot of support systems and services here in New York,” he added. The technological infrastructure, as well as credit, collections and billing are in New York.
The MGT employees who lost their jobs had held the positions of account executives or account managers. “It wasn’t a pleasant thing to do, but we felt that for the structure of the company, we just had to make the move,” Bryant said.
The East Coast sales operation has been “beefed up,” he said, with the addition of Cheryl Crawford, vice president of sales development; Joan Harris, director of list sales operations; Patricia Galvin, assistant director of list sales operations; and Melinda Garcia, list manager.
Marjorie Webb, president of MGT, will remain in L.A., handling acquisitions of new lists on the West Coast. Webb owns MGT along with Uni-Mail.
MGT’s lists include American Family Publishers, Heritage House, Gooseberry Patch catalog, Canadian Family Publishers, Shoppers Online, and several outdoor catalog lists.
The transfer of MGT to New York was completed Feb. 26.
