The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team Players’ Association has signed a new licensing partnership that will result in officially licensed player trading cards, featuring members of this summer’s Gold Medal-winning team.
Atlantic, VA-based Sports Vue Interactive, in conjunction with Choice Sports Cards, Elwyn, PA, has secured the exclusive Trading Card license. In a co-licensing arrangement with the U.S. Soccer Federation, Sports Vue has secured the rights to the players’ images and likenesses, as well as the U.S. Soccer logo.
The cards will be available in a 40-card set and are expected at retail by early November. The set will include two cards of each player, along with a special “subset” featuring the team’s five “91ers”—Brandi Chastain, Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Kristine Lilly and Joy Fawcett—who have been on the team since the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The license was brokered by Myrtle Beach, SC-based cc&c management group, the Players’ Association’s marketing agency.
