Thrifty Honors Travel Agents, Consumers With Storytelling Contest
When it comes to planning a vacation, some consumers may forget to thank the middleman responsible for tying it all together—the travel agent. So, Thrifty Car Rental is helping consumers pay homage to their travel agents via a story contest, which offers the grand-prize winner and their agent free airfare anywhere in the U.S.
Consumers who enter Thrifty’s Hug Your Travel Agent story contest are asked to describe how a travel agent saved their vacation plans and why the agent deserves to win. Those who enter must complete an entry form on Hugyouragent.com before submitting their story.
The sweepstakes will award the author of the top story and the travel agent with roundtrip airfare for two to anywhere in the U.S., a three-night hotel stay and a three-day car rental. In addition, Thrifty will give five runners-up and their agents free weekend car rentals.
The story entries don’t have to involve a car rental to qualify for the contest.
While the Internet is a popular choice for some consumers to make their vacation plans, travel agents still have worth, said Scarlete Pelfrey, Thrifty’s director of travel industry sales.
“What we found is that consumers are coming back to their travel agents,” Pelfrey said. “They are important to us and important to a great deal of our customer base.”
The contest is open to consumers 21 and older and runs through May 31. Winners will be notified by June 15. Internet materials, print ads and e-mail blast support.
