Sharper Image Corp. reported a net loss of $600,000 for its second fiscal quarter, an improvement over $3.7 million for the same period last year.
Revenue for the quarter ended July 31 was $102.4 million, a 24% gain over $82.8 million for the quarter ended July 31, 2001.
Catalog sales increased 33% to $29 million from last year’s $21.8 million. Internet sales increased 23% to $12.2 million from last year’s second quarter $9.9 million.
For the first six months, the San Francisco firm reported a net loss of $900,000, compared with a net loss of $6.5 million for the first half of 2001.
Revenue for the first six months increased 28% to $195.2 million from last year’s $152.6 million. Catalog sales increased 45% to $57.8 million from the prior year’s $39.8 million. Internet sales increased 21% to $23.7 million from last year’s $19.6 million.
“These results were driven in part by aggressive advertising expenditures and expanding our customer base for our exclusive merchandise,” said chairman/CEO Richard Thalheimer, in a statement.
