RICH PEOPLE BAG NEIMAN’S JAGS

So much for the new austerity

Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus sold out of its special edition 2010 Jaguar soon after unveiling its Christmas Book fantasy gifts catalog. It took only about four hours from when the order phone lines opened on Oct. 16 for all 50 XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus edition Jags to be snapped up at $105,000 a pop. Jaguar is producing only 50 of these cars, so when it’s over, it’s over.

(If you’re kicking yourself for not getting in on the action, Jaguar has said it would still take orders and compile a waiting list just in case some reservations fall through.)

What’s so great about this particular model? Well, it has a fancy, metallic-paint color called “Celestial Black,” for starters. The car also boasts custom navy and ivory parts inside with matte wood accents, 20-inch alloy wheels and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine. And it comes with a five-piece set of navy blue matching Jaguar luggage. Who knew Jaguar even made luggage?

If you missed out, Neiman still had cupcake-shaped cars available for just $25,000 each. In fact, you could buy four cupcake cars for what you would have spent on the Jag. Then you and three friends could parade down the street in them — albeit looking nowhere near as cool as you would in a custom Jaguar.
