Shawn Donnelley, chairman of the Direct Marketing Association’s political action committee Direct Voice, is mulling a run for the U.S. House of Representatives next year.
Donnelley, manager of political affairs for Chicago printer R.R. Donnelley & Sons, had not yet formed an exploratory committee as of press time, but had talked with officials at the Republican National Congressional Committee. Her final decision will be made soon.
She would be running to fill the North Shore seat vacated by 11-term Illinois Republican Rep. John Porter, a moderate who announced his retirement in October. Porter had been targeted by Democrats for defeat in 2000.
Donnelley describes herself as a pro-education, pro-business moderate who would bring an understanding of the direct marketing industry to Capitol Hill. Although she has notrun for office before, she has been an active participant in several Republican campaigns.
