P&G Adds Music Downloads to Home Made Simple

Procter & Gamble is adding music downloads to its monthly newsletter and Web site, Home Made Simple.

The e-mail newsletter this month adds a feature called “Julie’s Jukebox” that lets readers download songs for 99 cents each. Monthly “showcases” will feature a handful of songs that match a Home Made Simple article; readers can download a complete showcase, or individual songs. P&G will feature five showcases each month, in five categories: Organized Life, Celebrate Living, Clever Kitchen, Outside Pleasure and Easy Decor. Articles cover home-improvement projects and home-care products.

Home Made Simple’s reported 6 million subscribers also can earn points by passing along song recommendations to friends. Each time a friend buys recommended songs, the subscriber earns points for future downloads. Subscribers also can buy points for themselves or others.

Fifteen-month-old PassAlong Networks, Franklin, TN, handles the download program for P&G. PassAlong maintains a 1.1 million-title library of songs from major record labels and independent catalogs.

The service targets women who spend a lot of time online but may be intimidated by downloading music. It takes P&G’s “online strategy one step further by incorporating digital music … into an existing online relationship with our consumers,” said Home Made Simple Marketing Director Maurice Coffey in a statement.

“Home Made Simple recognizes that the Internet is an integral part of people’s lives, especially busy women,” Coffey said. “Home Made Simple continues to look for innovative ways to bring multi-media content together in easy-to-use formats. … Julie’s Jukebox is one example of combining music and technology, making it easy to download music.”
