Online Sales Up, Catalog Sales Down at Jos. A. Bank

Jos. A. Bank reported second-quarter sales of $46.1 million, a 2.8% increase over the same period last year.

The retailer’s Internet sales rose by 85%, but its catalog sales declined by 18%. Comparable store sales decreased by 1.2%.

“Unfortunately, our catalog and factory store businesses performed poorly and reduced our overall earnings,” said CEO Robert N. Wildrick in a statement. “We recently made dramatic changes in these two businesses which are starting to improve their results.

The Hampstead, MD-based firm also reported a 19% drop in catalog sales for the first half. However, Internet sales rose by 110%, compared with the same six-month period last year.

The firm mails roughly 8 million catalogs per year.

Sales totaled rose by 2.4% to $93.5 million during the first half.
