After struggling for nine years to compete, Northland Cranberries will sell off its juice business and return to its roots as a cranberry grower.
The juice operation, which includes the Northland, Treesweet and Awake brands, will be sold to Port Washington, NY-based Apple & Eve LLC for $10.8 million. The deal also includes the Seneca brand license agreement between Northland and Seneca Foods Corp. and agreements for Apple & Eve to buy $6.7 million worth of cranberry concentrate over the next 12 months.
Some 35 employees at the company’s headquarters in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, will be terminated due to the sale. Eighty people had been employed there.
