THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION:

in a response to a request for public comment by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, filed a comment Monday regarding the link between weight management and food labels and packaging. Among a number of suggestions, the FTC said that the FDA should consider changing label information so consumer will have an easier time of comparing calories in different foods. THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE: yanked $200,000 in advertising from FOX-TV letting the broadcast network know how it felt about a skit insulting postal workers to air Saturday night on Mad TV. The skit includes postal workers fighting over who would go on a shooting spree first.

THE NATIONAL CONSUMERS LEAGUE: The Center for Science in the Public Interest and others have submitted a proposal for a uniform “Alcohol Facts” label in a petition to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. The groups urged the agency to require a new label for alcoholic beverages giving consumers clear information about alcohol content, serving sizes, calories and ingredients.

BRITNEY SPEARS AND LIDROCK: are giving away the complete pinstripe suit and hat ensemble worn in Spears’ latest music video featuring Madonna entitled Me Against the Music. A sweeps announced earlier this week, is in conjunction with the release of the remix of Spears’ hit song available on LidRock CDs at 900 Sbarro Italian Eateries across the country. The contest ends Jan. 30.

SESAME WORKSHOP: has teamed up with Sony Wonder and Yoplait Yumsters for a six-month national promotional campaign featuring the three-CD box set Songs From the Street—35 Years of Music. The promotion will highlight the collection on Yumsters yogurt packaging. Purchasers can receive a free five-song CD sampler by mail by submitting two Yumsters proofs of purchase. In addition, the yogurt packaging will provide a Web link where consumers can download a coupon for a $3 discount off the CD purchase.

CIRCLE K: C-store chain has revamped its Web site to serve up localized promotions and drive store traffic. Site visitors give their ZIP code to get info on local store events and special deals. Shoppers can sign up for monthly e-mail offers and download coupons for their neighborhood store. The site also has maps and details on which of its 1,663 stores in 16 states have car washes, diesel fuel, ZapLink electronic services kiosks and Western Union money transfers. Phoenix-based Circle K also uses the site to host contests and will eventually ell products not available in stores. Phoenix agencies Mighty Interactive, Sitewire and B12 collaborated on the revamp.
