FEDERATED DEPARTMENT STORES: plans to change its name to Macy’s Group to better reflect its current business base. Last fall, the retailer completed its adoption of the Macy’s name nationally for all the stores it had acquired in 2005 when it bought the May Department Stores Co. About 90% of Federated’s sales come through Macy’s; the remainder comes through its Bloomingdale’s division. Federated’s board of directors will ask shareholders to vote on the name change; if approved, it takes effect on June 1. The company has been called Federated since 1929, when a group of family-owned department stores first united under a corporate holding company umbrella.

SUBWAY: is running an in-store promotion that offers free downloads of Dasani water models with online codes. Customers who visit any Subway restaurant can obtain the secret codes on displays through March 31 and redeem them online at SubwayFreshBuzz.com.
