March Traffic, Redemption Values up 33% at Coupon Site RetailMeNot.com

The economy may be showing increasing signs of a recovery, but coupons are continuing to grow as a way of digital life for e-shoppers. Coupon platform http://www.RetailMeNot.com reported that more than 12 million visits were made to its Web site in March, an increase of 33% over the 9 million visitors it got in March 2009.

According to the company’s monthly figures, the 100,000 retailers, restaurants and brands offering either printable or online coupons on the site in March generated approximately $33 million in sales, a total more than one third higher than the $25.1 million in sales in the same month a year ago.

Based on an average user saving of $29 per online coupon and $5 per printed Web coupon, users at the site racked up savings for the month of $7.9 million– $6.4 million in online coupons redeemed and $1.5 million in printable coupons. They also shared 32,000 coupons with friends and family, submitted more than 475,000 votes and posted 18,000 comments during the month.

The most searched online coupons on the RetailmeNot.com site in March were, as in February, those for retailer Victoria’s Secret. Kohl’s, JC Penney and Amazon.com occupied the next four slots in search popularity, followed by Domino’s Pizza, Macy’s and Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Old Navy, Target and The Children’s place round out the platform’s top ten searched online coupons for March.

Top printable brand coupons searched for in March included Fantastic Sam’s, IHOP, KFC and Great Clips, in that order. Food, clothing, pizza and retailers were the leading printable coupon categories searched.

Users at the site can input their ZIP codes to search for printable coupon offers in their area for goods and services, including groceries. According to RetailMeNot, the citizens of Plainfield IL were the most dedicated printable coupon searchers on the site in March, followed by the residents of Suwanee, GA; Freehold, NJ; and Buffalo Grove, IL.
