Live From NEMOA: Class is in Session for Steve Spangler

Steve Spangler began his lunchtime presentation at the New England Mail Order Association’s spring conference by showing attendees a few tricks they can play on family and friends.

For example, you can use a magnet to attach a Starbucks cup to the top of your car. When you drive around with it on the roof, other drivers will go mad honking and pointing, trying to get you to pull over. Or, you can put a plastic cup under your armpit beneath your coat. Then, when you pretend to bend your arm or neck, crush the cup, which will make a cracking sound, horrifying those nearby into thinking you’ve grievously injured yourself.

What does any of this have to do with direct marketing? Engagement, said Spangler, noting that if he did his job right, everyone in the room would go home and try to pull at least one of these gags on someone.
