Democratic Party presidential candidate Howard Dean set what his campaign called a single-quarter fundraising record during the fourth quarter of 2003. At deadline, the campaign was closing in on $15 million, which it generated through a mixture of traditional political glad-handing and online fundraising.
The Dean campaign held the previous record of $14.83 million which it raised during the third quarter.
The campaign Web site, http://www.blogforamerica.com, features a silhouette of a baseball bat that gradually changes from yellow to red as funding levels rise. At 3:00, the Dean campaign reported that it tallied $14.88 million in contributions from 140,618 donors, including $1.63 million collected during an eight-day push that started Dec. 23.
