Henry Schein Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire the dental distribution operations of Duisburg, Germany-based Hager Dental GmbH.
The acquisition of the privately held firm adds over 40 sales representatives to Schein’s sales force, as well as additional sales and service capabilities to the company’s direct marketing operations.
Terms of the transaction, which is expected to close in 30 days, were not disclosed.
The acquisition includes business operations in Gutersloh, Leipzig, Dortmund, Munich, Dresden and Duisburg, Germany, with reported 2002 sales of more than 50 million euros, or $58.5 million.
Stanley M. Bergman, CEO of Melville, NY-based Henry Schein, said in a statement there was little overlap between Hager’s operations and Schien’s businesses in Keil and Hanover.
Schein’s international division currently serves more than 170,000 dental, medical, and veterinary practices in 14 countries outside of North America, primarily in Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. For 2002, the roup posted record sales of $437 million.
