Staples sets up shop in 550 supermarkets |
The first units will open in July. The mini-stores will range between 40 to 80 feet, with 500 to 1,200 SKUs for school and home offices, including copy and photo papers, ink cartridges and accessories for home-office machines.
Staples tested the concept in about 60 Stop & Shop stores, and continues a similar test with Kroger Co. in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City stores.
The deal gives grocers more merchandise to fill family shopping baskets, while giving Staples access to shoppers outside its core audience.
“We are excited to leverage our expertise … to provide Stop & Shop and Giant supermarkets with a unique and convenient offering for their customers,” said Staples CEO Ron Sargent in a statement. “Additionally, Stop & Shop enables us to reach a consumer segment that might not typically shop at Staples.”
