Computer parts and peripheral marketer Gateway Inc. will launch a series of self-branded products during 2003. Gateway’s move follows a very successful effort by The Sharper Image. The San Francisco-based cataloger/retailer has touted a branded line of products for several years, and claims that the margins on these are higher than many of the other items it sells.
“We are rapidly transforming Gateway into a branded integrator of technology solutions and are making significant progress toward getting our PC business profitable again,” said Ted Waitt, Gateway’s chairman and chief executive officer, in a statement.
The branded product lines are scheduled to be in place by the end of 2003. They will include: at least 15 new Gateway-branded consumer-electronics products; at least four new mobile products (in addition to redesigned notebook line); at least three new Gateway-branded systems and networking products and solutions; and at least 28 new Gateway-branded software peripherals and accessory products.
