Burger King Holiday Cards Give Recipient a Cheeseburger

Burger King has launched a line of holiday greeting cards that give the recipient a dollar bill to be used to purchase a 1 ¼ pound Double Cheeseburger.

The cards—created for “B-listers” or those you may not know well or want to give something to but don’t want to spend a lot—come in 20 designs and can be purchased for $1 each online.

At the site, a slide bar on the home page is used to indicate the relationship of with the recipient. The card giver then buys the card and confirms the mailing address. Visitors can also pick from a variety of messages, such as: “Because an IM greeting wouldn’t have been enough. And a fancy gift would’ve been too much.” Or “Because I care deeply about someone who looks kinda like you.” Or “I want to share the season with friends like you. Provided it doesn’t interfere with my bowl-game TV schedule.”

“Everyone is taking a closer look at their gift list this holiday season, yet no one really wants to cut back—and we don’t think they should have to,” said Brian Gies, vice president, marketing impact, Burger King, in a release.

National TV spots promoting the cards began yesterday that show people, such as Mr. and Mrs. What’s-Your-Face, the neighborhood crime watcher, and the not-so-friendly neighbor, receiving the holiday cards. Spots will also air during SpikeTV’s “2009 Video Game Awards” on Dec. 12 and the promotion will be integrated with “Lopez Tonight.”

The Double Cheeseburger features two flame-broiled burger patties, crunchy pickles, ketchup, mustard and two slices of American cheese on a sesame seed bun.
