L.L. Bean Inc. is offering early retirement packages to about 500 employees, according to wire service reports.
The Freeport, ME cataloger said that diminished sales forecasts for the year meant it had to cut costs.
The early retirement packages include a month of severance pay and a 25% increase in regular pension benefits.
The company did not rule out future layoffs.
