Amazon.com Opens Site to Other Merchants for Fee

Online bookseller Amazon.com Inc., located in Seattle, will let any merchant sell goods to the12 million customers who shop on its Internet site, according to wire service reports.

For $9.99 a month, merchants can list up to 3,000 items on “zShops,” the area on Amazon’s site devoted to the sellers. Amazon.com will be paid a percentage of each sale. Merchants also can pay the company a fee for processing customers’ credit-card transactions. Data stored by Amazon.com won’t be released to zShops merchants.
