Yahoo Picks Up Small Travel Firm

Establishing itself as the most comprehensive Internet search service, Yahoo has purchased FareChase, a small online travel company to help broaden its Web search capabilities.

New York-based FareChase provides tools for consumers and travel agents to find hotel, car and flight information. As a result of the acquisition, Yahoo will build more robust consumer travel services without tapping third parties. Yahoo purchased New York-based FareChase on July 2. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Yahoo’s consumer travel property, Yahoo Travel is currently in an exclusive deal with Travelocity, which provides the underlying tools that let Yahoo visitors search for hotels, cars and flights. Yahoo has yet to disclose how it will incorporate FareChase into its Web site.
