Viacom to Create Web Sites, E-Commerce Unit For MTV, VH1

The creators of cable television networks Nickelodeon, MTV and VH1 have unveiled plans online destinations and commercial Internet sites for children and other music fans.

Specifically, Nickelodeon will create a kids-only online service, including a registered community, and, with the working title, “The Buggles Project” MTV and VH1 will create an online music destination featuring customizable entertainment, information, community services, and e-commerce. The kids destinations will launch in September and music destination in June.

Viacom will also create a new Internet division that will include the new online businesses to be located in San Mateo, CA. Viacom has earmarked $250 million for worldwide promotional support of these services.
