The U.S. Postal Service reported preliminary net income of $224 million for its third quarter, which is flat with last year, said spokesman Jerry Kreienkamp.
Revenue for the period ended May 16 was estimated at nearly $16.1 billion, up 5.2% from about $15.3 billion.
For the first two quarters of the current fiscal year, the USPS reported that first class mail volume had dropped 2.4% from last year while standard mail increased 3.5%.
Kreienkamp stressed that these figures, given to the USPS Board of Governors on Monday, were preliminary.
He said complete figures would be released in the middle of June.
