The United States Postal Service has unveiled its new line of stamps and a sweepstakes paying homage to the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise.
Fans can take their favorite characters home with a set of 15 Star Wars-themed stamps. The new stamps went on sale yesterday.
To create further buzz, the USPS has revamped its Web site to feature a Star Wars skin that changes with each visit. On the site, consumers can vote for their favorite movie-themed stamp and enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip to the top fan experience—Star Wars Celebration IV in Los Angeles.
Consumers can register for the USPS Jedi Shipping and Mailing Master sweepstakes at USPSJediMaster.com. Players will be asked to answer six different Star Wars trivia questions. During the game, participants will collect R2-D2 parts or information needed to repair the robot so he can deliver an important message.
After answering the questions, players must determine the best shipping and mailing method in which to send the parts or information to home base to earn a sweepstakes entry. The grand-prize includes a trip for four to the Star Wars Celebration IV, hotel accommodations, airfare and $2,000 spending money. Lesser prizes include eBay gift certificates.
Also on the site, consumers can buy Star Wars-branded Express Mail packs featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Darth Vader online. Pre-orders start April 6.

A teaser campaign began March 16, which featured R2-D2 strolling across the USPS.com site. The postal service hyped up the campaign and stamp launch sending 400 mailboxes disguised as the popular Star Wars robot R2D2 in 200 cities nationwide (PROMO Xtra, March 20, 2007).
Online materials and signage support the stamp launch and promotion.
