Tumblr Introduces Trending Tags on Its iOS and Android Apps

Tumblr logoWhen Yahoo acquired Tumblr back in May, the press release noted that Tumblr boasts more than 300 monthly unique visitors, and that more than half of its users are utilizing the platform’s mobile app. These mobile users access the app an average of seven sessions per day. So when Tumblr makes an update to its mobile app, especially one that’s related to its all-important tags, marketers’ ears should perk up.

On Tuesday, Tumblr announced that its iOS and Android apps now feature trending tags, which are displayed in the search tab. Each trending tag features a self-updating set of thumbnail images.

Given the importance of tags on Tumblr, brands and marketers should see this as a reminder to effectively tag each of their posts on the platform. Tags shouldn’t be limited to brand names and associated terms
