Ronco Acquisition Corp. has purchased the assets of Ronco, the company started by the much-parodied and much-emulated direct marketing figure Ron Popeil. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
In Ronco’s heyday, the company offered the Pocket Fisherman, the Veg-o-Matic, and the Showtime Rotisserie Oven, among other products, through a series of canonical direct response television commercials and other channels.
Ronco Acquisition Corp., a venture funded in part by Marlin Equity Partners and direct marketing veteran Larrry Nusbaum, formed The New Ronco to continue the original firm’s mission. Nusbaum will serve as chief executive. Popeil divested his stake in the company in 2005.
The New Ronco will offer a “Ronco Classics Line”, as well as searching for new innovations. The company is based in Simi Valley, CA.
