Remember Coke’s Magic Can fiasco in the late ’80s, when consumers accidentally drank the special weighted liquid in winning cans? PopStraw Co. has got that problem licked. The Roseville, MI, company won a patent in May for Pop `N Win capsules that put prizes in beverages. Polypropylene capsules with prizes inside are put in aluminum or steel cans when they’re filled. When the can is opened, the capsule pops out – guaranteed. Capsules can hold cash, tickets, coupons, or certificates, and can be customized by shape or color. Cost varies by quantity. PopStraw is negotiating with leading soft drink and beer brands, and will demo both Pop `N Win and its flagship PopStraw technologies at the Worldwide Food Expo in Chicago later this month.
