Delta Air Lines’ discount carrier Song is offering guitars and iPods to travelers booking for fall.
The Song’s Salute to 50 Years of Rock ‘N Roll promo plays off the airline’s name and its emphasis on in-flight entertainment.
Song will give an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. Gibson electric guitar to consumers who book two round-trip tickets together from Aug. 1-12 to travel between Sept. 7 and Oct. 6.
Travelers who book three or more round trips get an Apple Computer mini iPod; those who book one round trip can download 100 songs from Apple’s iTunes.
“Music and entertainment are vital components of Song’s culture and experience. In keeping with this theme, and in our continuing effort to provide innovative offerings for our customers, we are excited to introduce these unique premiums in celebration of 50 Years of Rock ‘N Roll,” said Song VP-marketing and customers Joanne Smith in a statement.
Atlanta-based Song kicked off the promo with a free Sugar Ray concert in New York; the band sang its hit Fly and a second song. Band members also helped Song give Gibson guitars to 20 teens in New York City’s foster care program.
Delta launched Song in April 2003; the airline broke its first advertising in April 2004 via Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners, New York City. Song ran a Random Acts of Coolness campaign in June, when flight and gate attendants gave away 5,000 round-trip tickets, drinks and beach towels to travelers who acted courteously to others—opening doors, sharing cabs, staying cheerful during travel delays.
