Sharper Image, the direct marketer based in San Francisco, reported catalog sales of $7.1 million for June, a 45% increase over the prior June’s $4.9 million. Internet-based sales decreased 11% to $3.3 million from last June’s $3.7 million.
Catalog sales for the first five months of $33.9 million were 46% more than last year’s $23.2 million. Online sales increased 7% to $16.8 million from last year’s $15.7 million.
Total June company sales decreased 1% to $27.7 million from last June’s $27.9 million.
“Although our June total sales were below our expectations, we believe it was a solid performance in a very challenging retail environment,” said chairman/CEO Richard Thalheimer, in a statement. “Our catalog sales were driven principally by television infomercial direct selling to customers featuring our most popular products. The June Internet sales, excluding the auction site, increase 8% over last June’s online sales.”
