Sci Fi Channel Brings Live Billboards to NYC

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

This week, in support of its new miniseries, 5ive Days to Midnight, the Sci Fi Channel is installing temporary live billboards in New York City storefronts.

Yesterday, the graphic murder from the television show’s first scene was reenacted by actors in a Union Square storefront window. New Yorkers can actually take part in the puzzle by witnessing the action in the window and collecting the clues needed to solve the murder.

The 5ive Days to Midnight story focuses on a college professor who receives a police file from the future with details of a gruesome murder–his own. He has five days to solve the mystery and prevent his own homicide.

Last week, 2,000 dossiers designed to look like 50 year-old police and medical examiner reports were dropped in the New York area. The reports direct people to a local New York telephone number and to www.5daystomidnight.com (http://www.mcb3.com/click.asp?x=16bbd.33e6.980231 ). People are then directed to call an 800 number operated by the Sci Fi Channel and Universal Studios/NBC. The number invites callers to involve themselves in tracking clues online to help solve the murder and instantly links them to their SMS service where they are fed clues via text messages.

Another murder reenactment took place yesterday in a storefront window at 7 East 14th Street and the storefront will be open as a live diorama throughout the week, with scenes from the show playing on large plasma screens. The storefront will remain open through the June 10 conclusion of the series, which began yesterday.
