MailFrontier, an anti-spam and e-mail security provider, has forecasted that more than 1.2 billion political spam e-mails will reach the inboxes of registered voters through the 2004 national election cycle.
Based on early findings by Palo Alto, CA-based MailFrontier Research, this year’s national election cycle will mark an unprecedented level of political e-mail spam received by registered voters.
Political spam has already begun to hit e-mail inboxes and will certainly intensify up to and during the 60-days prior to Election Day on Nov. 2, according to the company. Over the past 90 days, MailFrontier Research estimated a 50% increase in political spam.
The passage of the Can Spam Act signed into law by President Bush on Dec. 16, 2003, established the first national standards for sending commercial e-mail and required the Federal Trade Commission to enforce its provisions.
