Postmaster General John E. Potter is expected to discuss pending postal reform legislation on May 26 when he delivers the first ever State of the U.S. Postal Service address via satellite broadcast.
The speech at the New England Mail Expo in Boxborough, MA will be relayed live at more than 140 Postal Customer Councils (PCCs) meeting across the country.
Last week the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2004 was introduced in the Senate, after a House committee approved its version of the reform legislation.
Potter is also expected to discuss plans for a new PCC network. The present network was established in 1961 and now represents 138,000 members. Local councils range in size from fewer than 100 members to several thousand nonprofit and commercial mailers.
