Plastic Cash International is out with a new spin on stored value cards targeting music enthusiasts with a lifestyle-branded debit card.
The MYplash MasterCard is a reloadable, prepaid debit card that connects music fans with their favorite artists, including Simple Plan, good Charlotte, Clay Aiken, Xzibit and surfer Kelly Slater. The cards, which can be used anywhere MasterCard debit cards are accepted, may be loaded with $10 to $1,500. Cards can be purchased online at MYplash.com.
“We wanted to create a lifestyle that fans can actively benefit from,” said Brian Newberry, president and founder of Plastic Cash International. “This products talks with people instead of at people. We are [tapping into] consumers’ loves.”
With the MYplash card, cardholders get exclusive deals specific to their favorite band or sports star not available to consumers, including discounts on merchandise and early access to concert ticket sales, Newberry said. Cards must be purchased by consumers 18 and older, but can be used by fans of all ages. Consumers under 18 can use a card with parent or guardian signup, Newberry added.
“This gives bands and retailers a chance to tie into a demographic they never had before,” he said. “For consumers, it ties in with their lifestyle.”
Plastic Cash International debuted the prepaid card with a soft launch in April. A full-scale media campaign will take place this month. The company plans to sign additional youth-based brands and stars, including action sports stars this month, Newberry said.
To generate additional buzz about the product, MYplash is running an online sweepstakes, which offers one grand-prize winner an Fender guitar autographed by members of Simple Plan and one MYplash debit card worth $1,500. Twenty-five first-prize winners will receive a MYplash debit card worth $40.
The MYplash tour sweepstakes is open to consumers 18 and older and runs through Aug. 31. Winners will be selected on Oct. 15. Internet materials support.
