Philippines Enacts E-Consumer Protection Law

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

The Philippine government has taken steps to safeguard online transactions with the passage of consumer protection rules and regulations under the E-Commerce Act, according to news reports.

Under the new rules, retailers are required to electronically disclose clear, accurate and accessible information about their company, the merchandise or services they offer, the terms and conditions for the transaction, as well as the cost of the sale.

Sellers are also required to set up an internal complaint-handling mechanism for consumer complaints and must provide guidelines for consumers who want to file complaints before implementing agencies like the Departments of Trade and Industry, Agriculture, and Health.

Rules take effect Nov. 13.
