J. C. Penney Co. Inc. posted sales of $2.1 billion for December, a 2.6% increase over $1.9 billion in the prior year.
The Plano, TX firm reported direct sales of $341 million for the month, a 17.6% increase over $290 million last year.
Management attributed these results to “enhanced promotional programs, with particular strength in gift items, sleepwear and jewelry.”
