Orender Succeeding Ackerman at WNBA

Donna Orender has been named to replace Val Ackerman as president of the Woman’s National Basketball Association. The position takes effect in April.

Donna Orender

Orender is currently senior VP of the PGA Tour, a position she held since 2001. During her 17 years with the PGA Tour, she has overseen worldwide management of its television and production, advertising, brand management and integration. She was also responsible for the PGA Tour’s new media and Internet business.

Prior to the PGA Tour, she was an All-American basketball player at Queens College and played professionally with three different teams in the former Women’s Basketball League.

Ackerman had been WNBA president since the league was formed in August 1996. She announced in October that she would step down to spend more time with her daughters. Ackerman led the search for her successor, and will act as an advisor to the league and Stern.
