More than one third of all consumers abandon online purchases because of additional costs such as shipping and handling. A like amount feel that delivery times are too long, according to a new survey.
According to NetIQ Corp., which sponsored the survey, 30% of consumers are also turned off by sites that ask for too much information in order to make the purchase. Another 17% indicated that they have abandoned commerce sites due to lack of product information.
Some lost sales are apparently due to no fault of the retailer: 14% said they changed their minds and opted to purchase from a brick and mortar, rather than online, store.
What keeps folks buying? Just over half cited site security, while 55% indicated that “best prices” would keep them coming back.
NetIQ, San Jose, CA, conducted its telephone survey of 632 adults during December.
