CARIBOU COFFEE: is adding a new item to its menu—Wi-Fi service. The Minneapolis-based coffee chain plans to offer Wi-Fi service at participating locations by September. Caribou Coffee will offer free Wi-Fi during the first hour of customers’ visits, then ask consumers to make a minimum of $1.50 store purchase for each additional hour to receive a Wi-Fi access code. Users can register to receive coupons and premiums items from the coffee chain via Caribou Coffee’s branded network page.

GE: has partnered with mtvU to inspire college students to “green” their campuses as part of the mtvU GE ecomagination Challenge. College students can submit proposals that will better the overall environmental health of their campuses, are cost conscious and practical and push the creative boundaries of environmental thinking. Proposals are taken at Ecocollegechallenge.com, a co-branded Web site before Dec. 1. Students will vote on the winning proposal and the winner will receive a $25,000 grant towards the execution of their idea. The winner’s school will receive an mtvU Earth Day Concert and Festival next spring with performances from top emerging artists on the college music scene.

APPLEBEE’S INTERNATIONAL: has named Dave Goebel, the company’s president and COO, as its new CEO, effective Sept. 5. He will replace current CEO and chairman Lloyd Hill, who will continue to serve as non-executive chairman of the board. Hill worked as the company’s CEO since January 1998. Goebel joined Applebee’s in February 2001 as senior VP of franchise operations. He moved up the ranks to VP-operations and to COO before becoming company president in January 2005.
