McDonald’s Stages Summer Concerts in its Parking Lots

McDonald’s is using its parking lots as the stage for a series of summer concerts.

The fast food company is hosting a free 10-city tour with performances by Ne-Yo, Kenna, Kat DeLuna, the Dey, Single File, Twista and Kevin Michael in various markets. The tour kicked off last night in Venice Beach, CA.

Other stops include Denver Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Miami, FL and Atlanta, The tour concludes Sept. 25 in Austin, Texas.

A full tour schedule is available at MCDLive.com. On the site, visitors can view the concerts and buy T-shirts.

McDonald’s will promote the concerts online via Yahoo Music, while MTV will showcase content through its programming, live appearances and concerts clips. The concert series, Yahoo Music and MTV will be promoted on the back of 300 million large and medium French fry boxes starting Aug. 8. Footage from the concerts will drive people back to MCDLive.com. Videos will be up 24 hours after the event.

The company launched the series in an effort to better reach young adults.

“Music is the universal language among young adults,” said Neil Golden, vice president, marketing, McDonald’s USA. “Today more than ever, music touches every aspect of our lives from technology to pop culture to media.”

When the tour ends, concertgoers can vote for their favorite artist, and the winner’s music will be featured in a McDonald’s 2008 advertising campaign. Voting begins this Fall.
