German department store chain Karstadt AG has received shareholder approval to acquire mail order giant Quelle for $1.4 billion, according to wire service reports. Merging Quelle into Karstadt’s operations will form a store and mail order combination with 32 billion deutsche marks ($17.5 billion) in annual sales and lifting Karstadt’s pretax profit 37% this year.
