Hurricane Disrupts South Florida Mail Delivery

Hurricane Wilma hit south Florida early Monday morning with 125-mph wind and torrential rain. The storm disrupted the area’s electrical grid, causing 3.2 million consumers to lose power, according to reports.

On Monday, The post office suspended service in the following ZIP areas: 329; 330-334; 339; 341; 342; and 349. It also closed offices in the following ZIP codes: Mims (32754); Titusville (32780-83); Avon Park (33825); Babson Park (33827); Bowling Green (33834); Bradley (33835); Fort Meade (33841); Frostproof (33843); Lake Placid (33852); Lorida (33857); Ona (33865), Sebring (33870, 33871, 33872, 33875 and 33876); Wauchula (33873); Zolfo Springs (33890) Kenansville (34739).

The U.S.P.S. suspended drop shipment activity in the following locations: South Florida PDC (330); Miami PDC (331); Ft Lauderdale PDC (333); West Palm Beach P&DC (334/349); Fort Myers P&DC (339); and Miami ISC.

At least one direct marketer remained open in the face of Wilma’s fury: Worldata, a list firm based in Boca Raton, is using diesel-fueled generators to power its offices. Its phone and Internet lines went undisturbed as well.
