Homestore Sells ConsumerInfo Unit, But Reports $1 Billion Loss

Homestore.com Inc. has completed the sale of its ConsumerInfo.com division to Experian for $130 million.

However, the announcement today was followed by a Bloomberg News report stating that Homestore lost $1.5 billion in 2001.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Homestore blamed the loss on a writedown of assets and expenses related to a restructuring, according to Bloomberg.

Homestore announced the sale of ConsumerInfo.com on March 19, saying that it wanted to focus on its core real estate business.

ConsumerInfo offers online consumer credit reporting and monitoring services. Westlake Village, VA-based Homestore provides online support and technology to the real estate industry.
